Succession Planning

You can’t predict the future… but the Board has a responsibility to prepare for it.

Community Colleges have entered a period marked by significant transition in executive leadership. It is important for all governing boards to undertake a succession planning process to ensure the best possible future for their college.  
ACCT’s Board Leadership Services (BLS) consults with boards on preparing for  planned or unplanned transitions in leadership.  Working with governing boards and college leadership, ACCT will engage in activities including:

  • Facilitated appropriate, confidential, frank, and honest discussions with leadership
  • Independent audit to assess current policies for transition and institutional preparedness for leadership transition
  • Discussions on transition options with the board that minimize risk and strengthen the college during leadership transitions
  • Development of succession or transition plans
  • Recommendations designed for development of internal talent through leadership and professional development programs
